• 5 egg yolks
• 4 egg whites
• 250 grams granulated sugar
• ½ teaspoon vanilla
• 300 grams wheat flour, sifted together with ½ teaspoon baking soda
• 175 cc soda water or soft drink
• food dye or 1 tablespoon chocolate powder
• Line about 20 Bolu Kukus Moulds, with grease-proof paper and put into a steamer with boiling water
• Beat eggs, sugar and vanilla until fluffy, then add by turns ½ part flour, ½ part soda water and the remaining ½ part flour, ½ part soda water, stirring well. Take 5 tablespoon batter and add food dye or chocolate powder
• Pour white batter into moulds almost to the brim, add 1-2 teaspoons dyed or chocolate batter
• Cover the steamer and cook for about 20 minutes on high heat without opening the lid. Steam for another 25 minutes until the cakes open up and are done.
